The full title of this painting is “Verbal Counting. In the folk school of S.A. Rachinsky “, wrote it by Nikolay Bogdanov-Belsky in 1895. The painting depicts a classroom in a rural school, an arithmetic lesson is in progress. The teacher gave the children an interesting and difficult example, which they solve with the whole class. Children are busy with deep reflections, someone is thinking hard aside, someone is communicating with the teacher. It can be seen that the children are very interested in solving this riddle, they want to prove to the teacher and to themselves that they can do it.
A teacher is depicted next to the children, whose image was written from the professor of Moscow University, the famous botanist and mathematician Rachinsky.
The artist described a simple rural class – the children were wearing simple shirts, pants and bast shoes. The artist very well conveyed the craving for knowledge in the poses and eyes of children.
Warm tones of the picture convey a positive mood, childish sincerity, unity for a common cause.
