In 1925, Karl Bryullov wrote tightly “Vespers”. At that time, the young artist is in search of his genre and style. The art of Ancient Rome had a great influence on him at that time. The artist’s trip to Italy inspired him to write vivid subject paintings.
In the painting “Vespers” we see the evening service in the church, Christians on their knees. A poorly dressed woman sitting on the lower steps of the temple tries to restrain a child from her arms. On the steps above are a gray-haired man in white robes, a rich woman in a red and blue dress, a man dressed in red and black.
The temple was packed almost to capacity, Bryullov did not begin to describe in detail the crowd that filled it. He paid great attention to architecture. The column at the entrance and the wall of the building are carefully painted.
